Is there a way I can look in my city to see where there are major traffic jams etc. for morning travel?? Thanks.

Check your local news websites.  

Every TV station covers traffic issues in their area, some better than others.  I know in Houston, news sites have real time traffic data, indicating speeds that the traffic is moving 24 hours a day.  Accidents are noted, along with traffic on alternate routes.  Construction sites are monitored and delays reported, so people know whether it's better to avoid the area or just take the pain and sit it out.

I'm sure most major cities have similar systems.  Since you didn't list your city, I can't find any specific sites.  Talk radio is another excellent source of information as well.  Many stations will interrupt news stories to give traffic updates every 10 minutes or so.
