Traffic violation question?

My husband got pulled over for running a red light in the city of Chicago. They took his driver's license and gave him the citation saying that he'll get it back when he pays the ticket. The problem is that he needs his license back right away because we're going on vaction in two weeks and he'll need his ID when we get on the airplane. So my question is, how long does it usually take? He plans on sending the payment in tomorrow, so is it possible that he could get his license back before our trip?

  1. He should contact the appropriate agency.  This sounds pretty weird - I've never heard of them taking a license and holding it.

Of course, Chicago has some pretty weird rules, after so many decades of corruption.  Makes it hard to tell what's real and what's not.

  2. as far as i know,as long as his license is valid, the only person who can take it from him is a judge, ive never heard of a cop taking a license, especially for something as minor as running a light.seriously, call a lawyer, tomorrow!

  3. Why not go in person to the department of  motor vehicles  and pay the fine. If your husband has a passport he can use that as I.D to board the plane.

  4. he shouldnt have taken the liscense that is state property and the officer had no right to take contact the police dept. immeadiately
