So i was driving and i underestimated the power of the vehicle i was driving so i thought i'd make it through the other side of the intersection before it turned to red. It turned red while i was 3/4 of the way there and i saw a flash. And i only have a drivers permit.(yes i did have a licensed person over the age of 25) with me . A few questions:

MAJOR QUESTION: Is there anyway this can inteferre with my permit or getting my license? I only have a month before i can get my license so im worried i might lose my permit.

Also, if its just a ticket how much would running a red light ticket cost average?

thanks for all your help and remember all i really care about is if i lose my permit!

  1. you won't lose your permit and it shouldn't affect you getting your drivers license but it will go down on your record that you ran a red light

  2. I believe the ticket will be issued to the registered owner of the vehicle, not necessarily the driver. You may receive the ticket in the mail within 2 weeks. Check with DMV to see if it will interfere with getting your driver's license. I suggest depending on the state you are in try to take a traffic school in person or online course which may keep the points off your record [too many points may effect your license as well as insurance]. The traffic school course is timed and will take at least eight hours but it is otherwise inexpensive. Either way you will be faced with about a $400 ticket [$800 if an officer had stopped you in person] plus the cost of traffic school ---and you can ask for an extension ---so start saving those pennies!

  3. First off:  If you are HALFWAY across the intersection and the light turns red, you are legal as long as you were past the halfway point.

2nd.  If your picture was taken, your gonna get a ticket, and you'll go to traffic court.  Hope you have a nice judge ;)

3rd.  Don't quote anybody on Yahoo answers in front of a judge.

4th. Your Insurance rate will go up for ANY violation.  A violation puts you from a low-risk status to a high-risk.  If your risk is too high, you will be costing the insurance company too much money, and they'll kick you out. you'll have to use a High-risk company, which are very expensive.

Depending on state laws, You may have to wait until your 18 or 21 until you get your license.  A violation with a permit will definately s***w you over somehow.

  4. Don't worry you will not loose your permit and it will not stop you from getting a license.

The ticket can cost you about 500 bucks but you can always fight against it.

And it will not increase any points on your driver's license or increase your insurance as you do not have a driver's license right now.
