Question:

Tragus and cartilage piercing in general.?

Hi

I'm considering getting a Tragus piercing. For those who don't know what that is, it's on the ear. The triangular piece closest to your head.

I myself already have three cartilage piercing and an industrial (which goes through cartilage. Amongst many other piercings. So, I'm really not new to piercing, I'm not scared of pain.

However, I seem to have trouble healing cartilages. They will usually form bumps and take ages to heal. My industrial still gives me aggro nearly a year on and one of my cartilages is still painful and has a bump even though its several months old. I do all the right things, sea salts etc etc etc/

So I want this piercing, but I want to know, do you think I'll have the same problems (because its cartilage piercing) is there ANYTHING like maybe some sort of intensive treatment I could give to the piercing? I don't want to get it if its going to give me hasstle.

many thanks

  1. I've had my cartilage pierced numerous times and i've always had trouble with them healing as well. I got my tragus pierced, and to be honest it does hurt, but the pain isn't that bad. But my tragus never gave me any trouble at all! It healed better than my cartilage piercings actually. I would just get some body piercing cleanser, and use a sea salt mixture to clean it and I think it'll be fine :)

  2. My first two cartilage piercings (tragus and conch) healed perfectly but since those I've had trouble healing other cartilage piercings. I always get 'the bump' and they take ages to go away and calm down. I've tried everything - sea salt soaks, camomile teabag soaks and even a tiny splash of Dettol in warm water. Unfortunately all that's helped is leaving them alone and just waiting for them to calm down. Jewellery choices are a factor too - wearing a ring that flops about in the piercing won't help the bump so it's better to get it done with a barbell.
