Question:

Trailer hitch?

Hello,

I am buying an ATV in August, and will most likely be buying a small trailer to haul it around.

Would it be possible for it to attach to my Chevy Equinox LS SUV?

If not, is there a hitch available to buy that somehow attaches to the bumper or something?

Please don't tell me to get the dealership to do it, because that will end-up costing 4 times more then the ATV and the trailer combined.

Thanks

  1. Try U-Haul, they can sell you one to put on yourself or they can do it for a charge.  The Equinox should be able to pull 1K-1.5K pounds.  U-Haul should also have a wiring kit for the turn signals and break lights.  Good luck.

  2. Ok, so does your Equinox have a factory hitch already installed?  If so, yes it would definitely have the power to haul one ATV.  My friend hauls their ATV with a Trail Blazer.

I am currently hauling two ATVs with a Nissan Quest mini van.  Kevin is right to try U-haul, because I got my hitch installed at U-haul at a very decent price.  They installed the hitch bar under the bumper, and it comes with a ball.  They did everything that needed to be done installation wise, and I was very satisfied.  You need to make an appointment if you want an installation done.

Here are some words of advice for your future trailering.  Make sure the trailer is lit well with lights on the side and back, or use lots of reflective tape that you can buy at Wal-mart for cheap.  Some people on the road tend not to see trailers that well.  Also, pack your patience when driving.  For some reason, when you're hauling an ATV, a lot of people like to hate on you like tailgate you or cut you off.  This is just from past experience.

Good luck with your ATV and trailer.
