I own a 2001 Chevy S10 Crew Cab. Im looking into buying a horse trailer and I am curious if mine can pull anything or if I should upgrade the truck? If I upgrade truck Id prefer to keep it midsized, no Cummins Rams or Turbo Diesels, maybe Tacoma?

Does anyone know my trucks towing capacity? Can it pull even a small one or two horse? I love my truck but if it cant pull, its got to go. (Or Ill trade in my hubbies car!)

  1. if the thing has a  v6 and is a stick i don't see much of a problem especially if it has 4.11's

you may want to upgrade your suspension a little or extend the trailers tongue(weight displacement) to take some of the weight off of the hitch but you should be ok in pulling

the question of how you will be stoping comes to mind and some form of brake controller should really be usaed but i'm sure you already got that figured out

but for a occasional couple times a year use you shoukd be ok. I don't see a need to go out and get another truck over it.

Now if you are going to be using the thing every weekend you will still be ok but your bearings, breaks, clutch, u-joints,and parts in general, are going to wear out faster and your maintance intervals are going to be decreased also. You might want to consider a upgrade to a 3/4 ton as these parts will wear out slower

If you have a automatic you need to upgrade or move to a manual or stop every now and then and let it cool even doing that you will still roach the bands (eventually)it is just to much weight for that automatic

    goodluck
