Train car carrier?

Why dont they carry cars on trains from Melbourne to Sydney?

I'm from California, but one thing that I notice in quick research is that Victorian trains run on BROAD gauge track, but those in New South Wales are Standard gauge track.

SO, they would have to transfer the automobiles at Aubry from one type of railcar to another !!  OR they would have to make the two different states tracks MATCH gauge.

I hope others can provide more information.
