  1. I think someone is yanking your chain mate, There aren't any train drivers in the UK that have a basic of less than £28,000

    I work for an average paying FOC and my basic is over £38,000. With overtime you're looking at around £50,000 per year.

    I think the figure you have of £18,000 must be for a trainee driver. For an off the street man or woman to become a fully trained driver, you're looking at 6 to 9 months perhaps even longer. After this your pay should rise to something like the rest of us get.

    What you've got to take into account is that years ago the money wasn't so good, but then again you did less for your wages. Nowadays there's much more to train driving than just driving trains. So don't expect to be paid a small fortune for doing nothing an working 9 till 5, 'cause that's not what it's about. But if you're flexible and willing to help, then you'll reap the benefits.
