Question:

Train from Prague to Vienna

I am going to Prague again for a few days in a couple of week with a friend, we are thinking of catching an early morning train at about 7am from Prague to Vienna. Has anyone done this journey? Its a few minutes over 4 hours and really inexpensive at about 40E. Also, as we will have limited time in Vienna, whats best to see? I was thinking maybe a city tour on an open bus or somethng to make the most of the time we have there?! Any tips, ideas or suggestions would be very welcome!

  1. I'm sure the train will be smooth, fast, and comfortable.  No problems.  just make sure you are at the right station to catch the train. When you get to Vienna, I enjoyed just wandering around the center, but I don't know much about that, but the Austrian train website is great:

  2. I have not done the rail travel, but I have been in both towns.

Vienna has city tour buses, the hop-on hop-off kind.

You can get several different tickets, one that is just one tour in the bus on the central route, one that allows you to hop off for a few hour and one that is valid for 24 hours if I remember right.

I think for you the one hour, = stay on the bus, is the best one.

When I was there the bus was open, but it has a roof and windows that can be closed if the weather make it needed and the company has closed buses too.

    This is the company:

You can pick up the circular tour at any of its stops, but the central point for the 3 is at the Oper, (which also has an U bahn station and is easy to reach.

If you fancy something special, (more expensive but if you share it with 4 not too much,) think about a fiaker tour.

They have several starting points in the town, you can opt for different length of tours and I found if worth the money.

When running a google search I found several links, but not one to what seems an official site.

The Vienna tourist information was a little hard to find, it is near the Oper, it lacked signposts, but for only one day in town you may not even want to go to it.
