Question:

Train from San Francisco to Tokyo?

What would be your opinion of creating a high speed rail system from the San Francisco Airport to Tokyo's Airport using one great floating bridge, approximately 5,100 miles. The trip would be comfortable and would be only 14 hours (speed 300+). The energy for the trains would be supplied by either solar, wind or ocean energy along the way. The floating bridge would contain a floating base every 1/4 of a mile. There would be a train departing hourly each direction. 26 trains would be using the system at a time. What is your opinion on this transportation meathod?

  1. This will work.

Call me when it is ready. I will make sure to walk in the opposite direction.

  2. When I read the question I was struck by the final word.  I read it as "meathead"....No comment!

  3. Well, if ya get a train goin' fast enough, ya can put it into orbit, and reduce transit time to 23 minutes.

But, it's kind of like a manned expedition to the sun.  Ya can only go at night.............

  4. that would literally be the costliest thing mankind has ever built. so if you don't mind paying $5,000 a ticket then sure it's a great idea.

  5. Would it be economically feasible?  Could you do it without harm to the environment?  I think you have the makings of an engineer!

  6. disaster

  7. Nice concept.. and technologically do able, but its a few years ahead of economically feasible.

So you build it.. what would fund its cost and operation.  There is not that much passenger traffic daily AND you could not handle the volume of freight that is currently processed by container traffic.

(Plus you would have to detour for various islands along the way.. add more time)

Hold the thought.. in 10 or 15 years it might be doable and even necessary.  If you build it you can come find me and give me a ride.

good luck .. and keep thinking outside the box.

    .

  8. Ok ..... the first question of many is:

How do you propose keeping this "floating bridge" in line for 5,100 Miles?

What do you do about shipping lanes?

What about Pacific storms out at sea?

What about stresses inflicted on this "floating bridge" by ocean waves and currents?

I would think this has more than just one track ... correct?

Then what do you do if one has a mechanical failure way out there on the high seas? (maybe Greenpeace can be on stand by)

And here's the kicker ... powered by solar, wind or ocean energy and maintain 300+ mph ... 26 trains a day?

You sound pretty confident that this will work .. tell me, did you do some kind of trial type test? Like putting your train set on some kind of "floating bridge" across your pool at home and it worked?

As for my opinion .. thanks .. but no thanks. Until this meathead .. er I mean method or mode of transportation can be proved feasible .. I'll take my chances on an airliner or a slow boat to China.

  9. Not very likely.

  10. It's a good idea. I don't see a need for it though, since there are airplanes, to go 500mph+ But I would suport the idea. It would be fun to ride, and look around and see nothing but ocean.

I saw a thing on discovery channel a while back, saying they want to make a 1000mph+ train, (how they are going to do that, idk) to go to South Africa, (once again, I don't know why they want to go there Peroid. lol

But Nice thinking though, you must of really thought about all this.
