how much would a child ticket cost to get a train from watford junction to brighton?

An adult cheap day return on the hourly direct train costs from £16.80, but I can't get it to display child fares!

Look at National Rail Enquiries.  Price can depend on day/time of day/date/booking (well in advance) etc.  You need to fill the appropriate 'boxes' in to get an accurate price.  You can ask at the station ticket office, but you are better prepared if you have researched prices first.
