  1. Just go up to the desk and say "yea hello, i was wondering if i could get a ticket to brighton and then a return for 2 days time", explain the situation and then they should hand it over same price as a normal return ticket

  2. If you get an 'open return' you can use the return half up to a month after. There are also 'day returns' which are cheaper but you have to come back the same day. If you buy the ticket in advance you may get it cheaper.

Train tickets are ridiculously complicated so its best to go to the desk, tell them your plans and they'll work out the cheapest option for you.

Changing trains is just a matter of finding out before the journey where you need to change then getting off one and seeking out the next one in the station. Don't think you'll need to for London to Brighton.

Try the journey planner on www.nationalrail.co.uk

  3. A day return will cost considerably less than a 'single' ticket in both directions.

An 'open' return will cost about the same as a single ticket in both directions so there;s no point getting it.

However if you book early you can get better deals. Ask at the station a few weeks before travel if possible or try on-line.

  4. my advice would be check before u decide to go at the station or phone them

  5. The ticketing procedure has been explained to you. So far as changing trains is concerned, this is not necessary as all trains from Brighton to London are direct, without changing. The only thing is that there are two operating companies - Southern which runs services terminating at Victoria and London Bridge, and First Capital Connect which runs trains from Brighton to Bedford, calling at London Bridge, Blackfriars, London City, Farringdon and St. Pancras International on their way through London. It really depends where you are going in London as to what service you should use. It is likely you will have to change on to the Underground, but without knowing your final destination, I cannot help with that.

  7. buy singles online for the cheapest fares

  8. If you book on line, you can pick the day of your outward trip and also choose when you want to return. Also, if the train operator operates seat reservations, when you book with thetrainline.com your seats ,if available, will automatically be reserved for you, but only on the trains you specify.
