Train record attempt yesterday?

I was changing trains at Reading yesterday afternoon and an announcement said some train or other wouldn't stop there because of some record attempt, anyone else heard it, saw it?

that is the first i have heard of it and i work on the railway. check with Virgin as they tend to go in for this sort of thing

It's unlikely to be a speed record (miles per hour), because of the pointwork around this station, more likely an average speed record over a long distance.

Can you give any details of the type of train that passed?  Even the paintwork (Virgin, First Great Western etc.)?

Heh, reminds me of when the train's late and they stick a 'NO INFORMATION AVALIABLE' notice on the timetable screen. Maybe Virgin is going for this sort of thing, or maybe the train's late and they don't regard the station as very important. Either way, why can't trains run as normal, eh?

Yes I have heard that there has been over the last couple of months a few attempts on different routes to beat the fastest time for getting from one part of the country to the other, and beating records that had been set.

Your one was either from Cardiff or Exeter.

It also a good way of finding out what the top speed can be achieved by new trains & newly laid track + Signals
