  1. It depends.  How long of a trip?  How well is the child behaved?  Long trips can make a little monster out of a well behaved child and you may not enjoy your trip, what with the otyher passengers wanting to throw mom and the kid from the train.

Any train trip will be more enjoyable, as well as comfortable, if you can scrape up the extra cash for a roomette or cabin.

  2. Like, nine years ago when I was in first grade I took the train from New York to Washington DC with my parents and loved it.  And then two years ago, I took it from New York City to Plattsburgh NY (7 hours) and loved it again.  I'm sure your son would enjoy it very much, however, I am also a train fanatic, so I may have a slightly biased opinion.

  3. I have not taken a train trip with kids, but took the train from California to New York where there were alot of kids on it. There are coach seats, a small private cubicle and a room for extra money. One lady had a dvd player with movies for her child.  There was also a tv in the snack area.

  4. I have taken my three children on many train journeys and they love them, make sure you son has a window seat, so he has lots to look at, next take snacks some pop, or as you americans call it soda, may be his favorite book or the lates Harry Potter, finaly some games a pack of cards was a good thing with my children as it does not take up to much room
