Question:

Trained Early Childhood Teacher, how much to charge for babysitting?

I'm a trained early childhood teacher, and a family at a centre where I'm a relief teacher said they would like me to babysit for them. They asked me how much I charge, and on a whim I said $10-12. I now realise that this was way less then I'm worth, given I'm a trained professional. How do I rectify the situation to ensure I'm paid fairly? I don't want to ask too much, in fear that they think I'm overpriced, but I also don't want to get taken advantage of.

  1. I am in the same situation.

I am being underpaid and basically there is nothing you can do if the parents aren't willing to pay more for their child's care. Most of  my parents come to me with the child care only charges $120 per week. Yes, i understand that but they have 20+ children and the one on one attention will never be the same.

Just follow your instincts and go higher and hope for the best.

  2. i  work in a daycare and the children get our undevided attention........ they are also feed breakfast lunch and dinner. plus a snack. For 18 month olds we charge 135 a week. They older the age group the price decrease by 3 dollars and the younger then child the price increases by 5 dollars. i do believe you should just go talk to them. they would understand im making 14.76 an hour right now.
