Trainer, Mark Wallis ready to dominate the semi-finals of the williamhill.com St Leger
The four quarter finals of the williamhill.com St Leger were staged at Wimbledon on Saturday, 10th November. All the grade OR races were held over 687 metres, with the winner’s prize money £100 and the rest settling at £35. Trainer, Mark Wallis, dominated two of the four quarter finals as his entries landed the first and then the third race of the meeting.
The three-year-old black b***h, Ballintine Molly, completed the first quarter final in 42.34 seconds. The fifth trap led on right after breaking in the field, and then maintained the lead until she made it to the other end of the wire.
The R. Hutton trained, Ding Hero, qualified as the runner-up after a neck’s mark.
Winning the £100 prize money of the second quarter final was the under charge of trainer, P. Firmager, Romeo Patrol. Collision’s three-year-old dog out of, Fabulous Airport, had drawn the fourth trap.
The brindle dog set into an early high gear, and was quick to set the lead. He made it to the other end of the wire in 42.02 seconds and kept the Mark Wallis trained runner-up, Blonde Reagan, adrift by 4 ¼ lengths.
The winning trainer of the first quarter final resurfaced in the third contest which was won by the Mark Wallis conditioned, Blonde Fletch. The four-year-old took flight from the fourth trap and found it challenging to lead from the third position. Keeping the reeling in rival, Express Trend, at bay by a head’s mark, the black hound settled the race in 42.29 seconds, gifting the trainer with his second success of the day.
The last quarter final of the day saw the Chris Allsopp trained, Peggys Style clocking the track distance in 42.18 seconds. Westmead Hawk’s daughter defeated the favourite entry of the race, Ballyard Buddy, by 2 ½ lengths.
Breaking from the sixth trap, the three-year-old raced on the wide end and led on to the wire from the second position.
Wallis said: "That was a satisfying night to get all three of our runners through. You won't find a gutsier b***h around than Ballintine Molly, I loved the way Blonde Reagan battled his way through, and Blonde Fletch showed terrific middle pace. Roll on next Saturday!"
