Trainer, Steve Gollings positive about Local Hero’s ability to be a hard nut to crack for Nicholls’ entries in the Elite Hurdle
The true brand ambassador trainer for the Grade 2 totepool.com Elite Hurdle is the genius of his profession, Paul Nicholls. The trainer has saved ground by putting in three of his representatives in the field of seven runners. The trainer has secured his chances of success with, Zarkandar, Prospect Wells and Escort ‘Men.
However, this edition of the race includes an entry who has what it will take to bring down the trio that the exceptional trainer has put forth in order to destroy the field.
Trainer, Steve Gollings, has taken his chances with his five-year-old bay gelding, Local Hero. The trainer is positive that his hopeful for the race will for sure give a hard time to the competitors, specifically the entries brought in by, Paul Nicholls.
The race scheduled to take place in early November is raced at Wincanton over two miles and has eight hurdles which the contenders, four-year-old and above, have to jump over.
The race which was for the first time held in 1992 was hosted by Cheltenham, but two years down it was brought to Wincanton race course where it was cut down to two miles from the two miles and 110 yards distance.
Ever since 1994, the race has been won by Paul Nicholls five times which includes two times out of its last three editions.
With such a strong background of the rival trainer, Paul Nicholls, the confidence and conviction of Steve Gollings is truly amazing.
Gollings said: "I hope the rain stays away – good to soft would be fine. He doesn't look wintery in his coat and I couldn't be happier with him. He has been freshened up and his jumping is much better than when he was beaten twice by Zarkandar."
Lomitas’ five-year-old bay gelding, Local Hero, has lost twice behind the Paul Nicholls entry, Zarkandar.
He lost the Grade 1 JCB Triumph Hurdle to eighth place on 18th March, 2011 at Cheltenham and then fifth when racing against the favourite entry in the Grade 1 Matalan Anniversary 4-Y-O Juvenile Hurdle on 7th April, 2011 at Aintree.
Local Hero is backed by 15 to 2 chances in the race and will be accompanied by jockey, Paul Bohan.
How impressive will he really be against the intimidating prospects of, Paul Nicholls, will be out in the open soon.
