Trainer A.P. O’Brien aiming to land an eighth victory in the Irish 2,000 Guineas
Trainer A.P. O’Brien has a number of runners competing in the Group 1 Abu Dhabi Irish 2,000 Guineas, which is due to take place on 26th May, 2012, at Curragh. The renowned trainer’s entries this year include Daddy Long Legs,
Crusade, Nephrite, Power, Reply, Vault and Wrote.
Over the course of his career, many of O’Brien’s have scored in this 1 mile event including Rock of Gibraltar, Henrythenavigator and Roderic O’Connor.
Rock Of Gibraltar notched the Entenmann's Irish 2,000 Guineas (Group 1) on 25thMay, 2002, where he raced as a favourite with odds of 4 to 7, and broke through the wire 1 ½ lengths before, Century City.
On 24th May, 2008, Henrythenavigator landed this race, as he defeated race favourite, New Approach, by 1 ¾ lengths.
O’Brien’s Roderic O'Connor also bagged this race when he managed to defeat race favourite, Dubawi Gold narrowly by ¾ of a length.
A.P O’Brien will be hoping that one of his entries secures the victory in the Irish Guineas, but at this point it cannot be said which one of these runners is the best contender.
Wrote, son of High Chaparral, out of mare Desert Classic, could be one of the leading runners in this race. In his previous two starts, he raced as a favourite and finished third in both times.
The three-year-old colt raced with a winning shot of 8 to 13 in the Group 2 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes at Leopardstown on 13th May, 2012, where he was mounted by rider Ryan Moore.
Nephrite, who is under the ownership of Michael Tabor could also be the potential winner as his performances have been brilliant.

The son of Pivotal, out of mare Cape Merino, competed in three starts, and managed to score twice and finished as a runner-up in the remaining one.
The chestnut colt beat, Born To Sea, by 1 ½ lengths in the Group 3 JRA Killavullan Stakes at Leopardstown in October, 2011.
A.P O’Brien will have to count on these runners as Qipco 2,000 Guineas Stakes winner Camelot will be heading to the Investec Derby, which is scheduled to take place on 2nd June, 2012.
