Trainer Bryan Smart slightly nervous about Tangerine Trees’s seasonal debut at Haydock
Tangerine Trees ended his previous season with two magnificent victories, but trainer Bryan Smart seems a little concerned about how the seven-year-old will perform in his seasonal debut at Haydock
Tangerine Trees is pointed toward the Betfred.com Temple Stakes on 26th May, 2012.
The son of Mind Games, out of Easy To Imagine, last season out of five starts secured three victories, but delivered disappointing performances at Haydock and Ascot.
Since Tangerine Trees finished tenth in a line-up of twelve runners in the Group 2 Betfred.com Temple Stakes at Haydock last year, there is an opportunity for him to atone for his defeat, and show what he is really made of.
After running the bay gelding through a work-out at Thirsk, Smart was pleased with the way he performed and stated that:
"He went great (at Thirsk) and the thing about him is he never overdoes himself, so it will have done him a lot of good. You don't see his speed until you put an engine on his head - his visor - so we're very pleased with him.”
Due to the fact that his season ended on a good note, he seems to have raised his credibility.
He triumphed over, Secret Asset, by a short-neck in the Group 1 Qatar Prix De L'Abbaye De Longchamp at Longchamp on 2nd October, 2011.
The Tangerine Trees Partnership owned runner will have an opportunity to demonstrate his strength at Royal Ascot this year, as he failed to impress last year and fell short of the mark.
He finished nineteenth in the Group 1 King's Stand Stakes (British Champions' Series & Global Sprint Challenge) on 14th June, 2011, under the guidance of rider, Tom Eaves.
Bryan Smart commented that:
"The golden opportunity for him is Royal Ascot. Last year he went there and he wasn't right but if we get there and everything is right this year, he's got to have every chance."
Tangerine Trees’s form can only be judged after his performance in his seasonal debut, but his connections have confidence in his ability to take the track and bag a victory.
