Trainer Dale Romans dominates the line-up of Secretariat Stakes with Silver Max, Cozzetti and Finnegans Wake
Dale Romans has entered, Silver Max, into the Grade 1, $500,000 Secretariat Stakes at Arlington Park with the hope that he’ll take home the money in the 1 ¼ mile race. Things are looking up for the runner, who has claimed six races in a row but his
other two trainees, Cozzetti and Finnegans Wake are not to be under-estimated.
Silver Max has overshadowed the rest of the competition, but that does not mean that the other runners lack the skill, potential or the motivation that he has.
Cozzetti, owned by Albaugh Family Stable, is in pretty good shape himself, and will use this opportunity to get the nod over Silver Max in future races. Paired with rider, Shaun Bridgmohan, he will have to try his best to take the money home.
The son of Cozzene, out of mare Lemon Drop Cello, claimed an immense victory in the Grade 2 American Derby at Arlington Park over 1 3/16 miles, where he defeated, All Stormy, in 1 minute and 57.42 seconds.
This shows that the three-year-old has prior experience on this track and the potential to win, which will definitely facilitate him on the track.
Finnegans Wake finished third to Silver Max in the Virginia Derby, and has a lot of work to do in this race but might just be able to pull it off.
Other than Romans’ power horses, one of the biggest threats on the track will be Summer Front. Trained by Christophe Clement for owners, the Waterford Stable, the colt will be ridden by Ramon Dominguez.
Regarding Summer Front, rider Ramon Dominguez told the press that:
"Every race he has been relaxing even more and is very mature" and “It's very exciting with this horse.”
Dominguez has mounted him in all his starts and is excited about Summer Front’s chances in this race. He is currently on a hat-trick, as he claimed the Grade 3 Hill Prince Stakes at Belmont Park and the Duluth Stakes at Saratoga.
The son of War Front has an overall record of 5-1-0 in 7 starts and collective earnings worth $316,800.
With a terrific line-up like this, it is bound to be an exciting race.
