Trainer David Marnane excited about Santo Padre’s run in the Woodies D.I.Y. Sapphire Stakes
Trainer David Marnane is having exceptional luck in recent races, and he is hoping that some of this good luck will rub off on Santo Padre, who is all set to compete in the Group 3 Woodies D.I.Y. Sapphire Stakes at the Curragh on 30th June, 2012.
The eight-year-old gelding has also scored five times over the course of his career, and it is high time that he bags another victory.
He recently competed in the five furlong Galtee Midsummer Sprint Stakes (Listed Race) at Cork on 17th June, 2012, where he finished in fourth place.
Both Santo Padre and rider Fergal Lynch tried their best, but missed the victory to the Rae Guest trained, Mirza, by a narrow margin of 1 ½ lengths.
The trainer looks optimistic about the form of the Victor Partnership owned runner as he commented:
"He's in good form and is going to run in the Sapphire."
It was all thanks to, Dandy Boy, and rider, Pat Dobbs, who landed the first Royal Ascot victory for David Marnane.
The six-year-old horse turned heads in the six furlong Wokingham Stakes (Heritage Handicap) at Royal Ascot on 23rd June, 2012, which he entered with slim odds of 33 to 1.
Despite this, the son of Danetime, foaled by mare Fleet Of Light, gave his all and triumphed, 1 ¼ length ahead of the David Barron trained, Waffle.
Dandy Boy was the highlight of the Royal Ascot meet for Marnane, but Jamesie’s effort was also incredible.
The son of Kodiac, out of mare Pretty Woman, finished second to, Eton Forever, in the Buckingham Palace Stakes
(Handicap) at Ascot on 22nd June, 2012, by a small margin of 1 ¾ lengths - over a distance of seven furlongs.
David Marnane told the press that:
"We had a great couple of days at Ascot, especially as we'd been a bit quiet before that. I'll probably run a nice horse called Seanie in one of the premier handicaps over the weekend."
Seanie, son of Kodiac, out of mare Cakestown Lady, finished third in the Jogforjockeys.ie Race at Fairyhouse on 13th June, 2012, where he lost the victory narrowly by 1 length in the seven furlong race.
