Trainer David Marnane optimistic about Dandy Boy’s future after his victory in the Wokingham Stakes
With a surprise victory in the Wokingham Stakes (Heritage Handicap) at the Royal Ascot, Dandy Boy is the star that everyone is keeping a close eye on, starting from his trainer David Marnane.
On 23rd June, 2012, the son of Danetime posted an upset victory over the David Barron trained, Waffle, by 1 ¼ lengths
Coupled with rider, Pat Dobbs, his victory was highlighted by the fact that he entered the race as a long-shot with slim odds of 33 to 1.
The third place was secured by Hawkeyethenoo, whereas race favourite, Lightning Cloud, finished in ninth place in a dead-heat with, Alben Star.
The young runner, who is under the ownership of Malih Lahej Al Basti, completed the six furlong course faster than, Black Caviar, in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes.
The trainer and the jockey were particularly pleased with this victory, since it was their first victory in the Royal meet.
Marnane was incredibly pleased with his runner, and appreciated his versatility when he stated to the press that:
"He's been a great horse for us, winning three premier handicaps in three different countries, and he pulled out of the race well and is as fresh as paint."
Prior to the Royal Ascot victory, the runner competed at the Curragh on 26th May, 2012, in the Emirates Equestrian Federation Handicap (Premier Handicap) where he missed the victory by a narrow margin of a neck to the J. S. Bolger trained, Glor
Na Mara.
The trainer contemplated on the future of the runner, and stated that he will patiently wait for a good race where the runner can compete. Regarding this, he stated:
"We'll just sit down and have a think about his next race now. I don't think Black Caviar was quite on her day but obviously we'll step him up in class now. I'm not going to do anything like supplement him for the July Cup, we'll go steadily and find a Listed
race or a Group Three."
Jamesie, who is also trained by David Marnane, might run at Newmarket based on solid performance in the Royal Ascot, when he finished second to, Eton Forever, in the Buckingham Palace Stakes.
