Trainer Doug O’Neill highly likely to face suspension
The trainer, Doug O’Neill would never have suspected that his bid for the Triple Crown with his three-year-old under charge will get bruised by a fresh infusion of allegations about the medication of his horses. However, as before he has decided not to let
such matters take their toll on his actual and real nature of work.
The Kentucky Derby winner trainer, Doug O’Neill has been charged before too but that might not have been enough to knock sense into him as yet again one of his horses was found on an excessive dose of carbon dioxide. The ‘dose’ is disguised as a mixture
of bicarbonate of soda, electrolytes and sugar which fights off the fatigue for the horse and also adds to his performance on the track.
Since the span of last twenty-five years, this a total fourth time that the trainer of the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes winner, I’ll Have Another, has been charged with the same offence.
In defense the trainer said:
"I swear on my kids' eyes I never milkshaked a horse," O'Neill said. "We had some people in charge of California racing I think didn't like a few of us that were doing well. Anyway, it's all being heard by the courts and I'm very confident everything will
be fine."
The trainer faces some harsh repercussions that may include a ninety-day suspension along with a £5,000 fine which can be extended to the suspension ranging to one-eighty-days while the fine soaring to £15,000.
He can however appeal which can culminate into leverage upon his right to still train. This all took place right in between the bid of the Triple Crown and Doug O’Neill is not the first of the trainers to face allegations while contending for the Triple
Crown.
"It's really old stuff that's still in litigation. I'll probably be retired by the time they come up with a verdict," O'Neill said. "I'm very confident everything will be dropped." "It's very frustrating. But I've put in about $250,000 in lawyer's fees and
will let them worry about all that stuff," he said. "It won't affect us at all here. It's all so ridiculous."
