Trainer Ian Wilkes immensely pleased with Neck ’n Neck’s work-outs at the Spa
The Ian Wilkes trained, Neck ’n Neck, is doing extremely well under the care of his trainer. He hasn’t raced since finishing as a runner-up to Alpha in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga, but holds an entry in the Grade 1 Travers Stakes on 25th August,
2012.
The handler has taken him on a series of work-outs at Saratoga to improve his form and potential. If he does compete in the Travers, he will have to stretch to 1 ¼ mile, but the connections of the sophomore haven’t confirmed anything yet.
The trainer has high hopes for the son of Flower Alley, and he will have to compete in difficult races to prove his worth. Regarding this, he said:
“He has to go forward, because it’s going to be a little tougher.”
On 14th August, 2012, the three-year-old went through a series of work-outs and completed five furlongs in an impressive 1 minute and 0.29 seconds with his exercise rider Tracey Wilkes, the trainer’s wife.
