Trainer J Meek takes away the victory from G Ballentine at Hall Green on 21st December
Trainer J Meek finally won a Grade A2 race against G Ballentine, who had been all over the Hall Green meet on 21st December. J Meek’s 9 to 4 favourite, Ask Flash, defeated G Ballentine’s Lady Barrister by a single length.
This race had entries from prominent trainers, such as G Ballentine, Pat Sallis, S Buckland and C Kyme.
Breaking out from the second stall, J Meek trained Ask Flash set in an early pace and did not take long to get command of the track. The daughter of Daves Mentor, out of Timmies Stapler, covered the 480 meters distance in 29.56 seconds, meeting the expectations as the favourite.
She upset the rhythm of G Ballentine’s Lady Barrister, who initially took off at high gear from the first stall, but missed the victory by a length.
Following the tracks of the winner and the runner up, P White trained Drifting Home rushed through the track in 29.74 seconds and covered the missing 1 ¼ length in 5.06 seconds.
He was then followed by Highview Girl, under S Buckland’s charge, crossing the finish line in 29.86 seconds.
Pat Sallis was again unfortunate with his entry, Normandy Black, who settled for the fifth position, after racing through the track in 29.94 seconds.
Putting an end to the race was C Kyme trained Adriatic, who waved the track good bye in 30.14 seconds, leaping over the 2 ½ lengths, left when he was left alone at the track, in 5.12 seconds.
Ask Flash’s last victory was at Hall Green as well, on 25th November, sent as a favourite for that race as well. She was a 2 to 1 favourite and claimed the prize money, worth £122, by finishing the distance in 28.90 seconds.
It has only been six times that she has been sent as a favourite, and has been victorious eight times ever since June 2010.
Her racing experience ranges from Grade A1 to A4 races, but she has only been displaying her talent at Hall Green, and has not raced on any other race track till now.
Ask Flash’s ranking also falls in the bracket of fifth to first, which does not really reflect a consistent performance.
