Trainer Manuel Ortiz speculative about Beer Meister’s chances in the Grade 2, Strub Stakes on 4th February at Santa Anita Park
The four-year-old Kentucky bred son of Pleasant Tap out of Nanas Cozy Account, Beer Meister, who is owned by William A Burns and Jim Egger has been entered for the Grade 2, Strub Stakes on 4th February at Santa Anita Park that
will be raced over a distance of 1 1/8 miles on dirt. The race has attracted a solid field of seven participants.
The four-year-old has made seven life time starts out of which he has won thrice and has ended up as a runner up twice.
He cleared off his maiden special weight race on 31st December, 2010 at Turf Paradise, on the same race track he came second in an allowance race on 14th January, 2011, and was second again in another
allowance on 29th January, 2011.
After the maiden, he struck his first victory in the Turf Paradise Derby on 26thFebruary at Turf Paradise which was raced over 1 1/16 miles. Beer Meister covered the distance in a minute and 41.99 seconds. The runner up of the race was,
Indian Winter, while Mr Artistic M D finished third in line behind the winner.
On 27th March 2011, Beer Meister was fifth in the Grade 3, Sunland Derby at Sunland Park which was raced over 1 1/8 miles, and was won by Twice The Appeal. He then stood seventh in the Grade 2, Peter Pan Stakes on 14th May,
2011 at the Belmont Park which was also raced over 1 1/8 miles and was won by Alternation.
Beer Meister’s capped off the 2011 season with a win, as he finished the Luke Kruytbosch Stakes first on 31st December, 2011 at Turf Paradise.
On 23rd January 2012, Beer Meister worked over six furlongs in a minute and 13 seconds at Turf Paradise. His trainer, Manuel Ortiz is highly speculative about the seasonal debut of his trainee.
“I think he’ll run big,” said Ortiz, who trains Beer Meister for Linda Eggar and William Burns. “At least, I hope I don’t go home with my tail between my legs.”
“We knew he had a lot of talent, but he didn’t really settle in until I cut him, before he even started,” Ortiz said of Beer Meister. “Then he made a complete turnaround. In his first race, he broke his maiden by what looked like 19 1/2 lengths.”
