Trainer Martin Jones looking for further success after his stable ranked among the top ten at Santa Anita
Trainer Martin Jones’s stable is already oozing with success ever since the new season has begun as three different horses of his have won at three different instances. Compari won the Sensational Star Stakes on 28th January
then, Unzip Me gave a spectacular performance in the Wishing Well Stakes on 29th January, and lastly, Zackn’mat won a maiden stakes on 2nd February at Santa Anita.
Martin Jones’s stable can easily be considered to be among the top ten stables at Santa Anita this winter.
The seven-year-old gelding of Ecton Park out of Pete’s Fancy, Tres Borrachos is being pointed for the Grade 2, San Antonio Stakes on 5th February at Santa Anita Park over 1 1/8 miles on dirt. It is a field set for seven to contest.
Tres Borrachos has already made his seasonal debut in the Grade 2, San Pasqual Stakes on 7th January at Santa Anita over a distance of 1 1/16 miles, where he finished second against the winner, Uh Oh Bango while third in line
behind the winner was, Skipshot.
“It looked like Uh Oh Bango got a jump on him,” Jones said. “He ran his race. He’s a true professional. It comes down to racing luck with that horse, and if he gets the right trip, he can win. If he doesn’t, he hits the board.”
Of the six starts that, Tres Borrachos, made in the 2011 season, he won once and was placed thrice. He won the Grade 2, San Diego Handicap on 30th July at Del Mar, raced over 1 1/16 miles.
The second start of the season would make Tres Borrachos confront Uh Oh Rags, Skipshot, Tweebster, Java Man, Utopian and Massone.
“Game On Dude is in the San Antonio, that makes it tough for [Tres Borrachos], but he’s doing well,” Jones said.
His other stable mates who will be out racing include Stone Hot, who is to race in an allowance on 5th February, and Creative Writing, who needs to race through his maiden stakes.
On 29th December, Stone Hot finished fifth in the $40,000 claimer race, and that also by a slim margin of 1 ¼ lengths.
“He’s run good down the hill,” Jones said. “When the rail is out, it’s tough to make up ground.”
