Trainer Robert Cowell running Prohibit, Spirit Quartz and Monsieur Joe in the King's Stand Stakes
Trainer Robert Cowell is gearing up his runners, Prohibit, Spirit Quartz and Monsieur Joe, for the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot on 19th June, 2012.
Prohibit, son of Oasis Dream, out of mare Well Warned, has failed to score in his last five starts, but Cowell is counting on the victory that he secured in the Group 1 King's Stand Stakes last year, when he defeated Star Witness by half a length on
14th June, 2011.
The trainer stated that he has always delivered a good race at Ascot and this year will not be any different:
“He's very good at Ascot and never out of the top three. I hope he'll run a good race but he's seven and might find one or two too good."
The seven-year-old gelding recently finished seventh in the Group 2 Prix Du Gros-Chene at Chantilly on 3rd June, 2012, but he might be able to bounce back in this event.
Spirit Quartz, owned by T. W. Morley and Mrs. J. Morley, is an interesting prospect and the trainer is immensely pleased with him as he commented:
"I've been training him specifically to stay at five furlongs and he's a very, very underrated horse who could produce anything in the King's Stand. He has a very high cruising speed. He's only a four-year-old, I've not had him long but he will relish
a stiff five and a fast pace."
The son of Invincible Spirit, out of mare Crystal Gaze, finished second to the Bryan Smart trained Excelette, in the Multiplex Achilles Stakes at Haydock on 1st June, 2012, where he was ridden by the talented rider, Richard
Kingscote, and lost the victory by a near negligible margin of a neck.
The five-year-old Monsieur Joe also has an incredible record with the exception of Betfred.com Temple Stakes at Haydock, where he finished eleventh on 26th May, 2012.
The son of Choisir, out of mare Pascali, showed what he can really do when he finished as a runner-up to Beyond Desire, shy of a short-head, in the Group 3 Prix De Saint-Georges at Longchamp on 13th May, 2012.
