Trainers Marco Botti and Richard Fahey add more feathers to the owner's cap in the Betfair Huxley Stakes at Chester
Owner Dr Marwan Koukash could not have had a better meet than the Chester one and that too is a race course the owner dotes on. His second success of the meet was in the Group 3 Betfair Huxley Stakes (For The Tradesman’s Cup) on 10th May over a mile and two and a half furlong.
Riding with the Italian bred, Marcret, was Ryan Moore and the two yanked away the race by a very narrow margin of half a length. The five-year-old, who was previously trained by Marco Botti’s brother Stefano back in Italy, completed the trip impressively while coordinating with Ryan Moore who kept him wide to create a decisive impact.
Besides the meet, the race could not have been luckier for the proud owner whose other entry in the race, Myplacelater, finished the closest to the winner.
This was the second time that Marco Botti gave the owner a winner.
Before this, on 9th May Mark Johnston’s trainee, Good Morning Star won the Weatherbys Bank Cheshire Oaks (For The Robert Sangster Memorial Cup) (Listed Race) (Fillies) on 9th May over a mile and three and a half furlong.
He said: "I'm absolutely delighted. The owner bought this horse last week. He was in the sales but we pulled him out. Marwan had the first and second too, so I think he's over the moon.
"The owner made it clear this was the place where he would like to have a winner, so this was the plan.
"He's been a consistent horse. I was a bit concerned about the softer ground as he has been running on firmer ground in Dubai, but Ryan was always happy about where he was during the race. He seemed to handle it well and he picked up well off a slow pace."
After joining Marco Botti on 23rd January, Marcret has raced four times during the new season. This was his first try at Chester and the seasonal victory too. The three outings at Meydan could not offer him a lot but he did complete the trip there decently.
If it’s the races, the venue, trainers, jockeys or the horses behind the success, is not easy to figure out but Marwan’s love for Chester has paid off and has paid off good.
