ask the people there (they are most likely runners) about ankle support

You may want to try Reebok.com or New Balance.com. Both to my knowledge have been known to make mid top running shoes for people who need extra ankle support like yourself. If you can't find online, try calling there customer service line. There numbers should be online as well. Good Luck finding them. Although they rare and hard to find they do make mid top running shoes.
