  1. learn to juggle its great for reflexes and improves peripheral vision :)***

  2. Your eyes, train them mostly, then the speed of your hands.

A good technique I found and use, is (hopefully you have a tree) hang tennis balls by strings from a tree in your back yard.

start with one, then move on to more.

The goal is to only touch the tennis balls with your hands, but keep all the tennis balls moving.

  3. If you have someone at home that can assist you... stand face to face, both in a neutral fighting stance or semi- back stance... knees bent to keep you flexible.... not stiff and stuck in one place unable to move. Both of you start off with left foot

forward, left opened hand eye level in front of you, right hand opened and guarding at your mid chest. With your eyes closed, touch the backs of your left hands. With one person being the one to move (mover) his hand in random motions, slowly, not jerky & fast, you (follower) should be able to keep your hand in constant contact with the mover's hand at all times. Just follow the mover's every motion. As you get good at this, you can speed up a little. But the mover must make his motions purposeful and not fast or jerky to attempt to fool you.

When this becomes kind of easy, stand squarely face to face and touch the backs of both of your hands. Do the same, try to follow the movements of the mover's hands. You want it to be as if you are fighting (with the backs of your hands facing your opponent) in slow motion. One strikes (slowly) while the other follows the strike but evades it by pivoting his body or taking one (small) step to the outside or away and letting the strike pass to his side. Keeping hands in contact though.

You can add dimention to this exercise by having the mover step into your position so you have to make a retreating move of your body by stepping back & away from him but all the while keeping your hands touching. Then, you can do the same to the mover by stepping forward toward him & having him evade your attack.

It's kind of difficult to explain without actually demonstrating this. This is a technique that I practices a few days a week while studying Seven Star Praying Mantis Kung-Fu. It really quickens your reflexes especially when you get good enough that these exercises are in a fast & constant motion.

  4. Do you have a PlayStation or an Xbox?  I am a near expert couch commando - mind you my neck and shoulders are real stiff a lot of the time but reflexes that could destroy marauding zombies/ aliens/ etc., at fifty paces
