Training for 400 meter dash?

Okay so, it is summer right now and track next season doesn't start until next April so I have a lot of time to prepare myself for my top event, the 400 meter dash. My record time was around 65-66 secounds and I really want to get 61 secounds by track season. Any good ways to train for it? Including things to eat and stuff like that. Anything helps!

  1. i also run the 4oo meter dash. i run alot by just doing kickers. thats where u set a time and u do an 800 and then a 200 the a 2 min. breack then u do that 3-5 times.also running/hopping up a hill works. set a distance and then u hop on one foot for 5-7 hops the run left right left right then do that till ur goal. repeat on the other foot. streatching helps a lot too. and don't drink a lot when u run or are about to run, it sloshes around in ur stomach.

  2. My sister has a 57.4 best time and she practices by running a 6km lap, and then 2 400m runs, then she starts trying to beat her time as her coach times her. And she says never drink water while training, just put it in and spit it out.

    Good Luck!

  3. Jog in the mornings. And then go down to your local track and practise the 400m at least twice every day. Only drink water and try to eat non-processed foods. Good luck.

  4. im a 400/800 runner and the practice that helped me the most was 400 repeats..

we do 8-9 hard-to-sprint 400s with jogging a 400 in between each sprint 400 (if that makes sense)

its tough but helps in the long run ;) it also works better if you have some friends with you at the same speed to push you harder

    good luck!

  5. do lots of straights and curves..(running straights, walking curves.)

work on some distance, no just sprinting.

    and, do lots of drills.

  6. keep practising 400 hundred nd time youself everytime you do it nd sprint 800 just to get you fitter not saying your not but just to help you bit more

  7. You'll find some of the great Michael Johnson's training methods on here.

No mention about what he ate though.  Do you have a local gym that can advise you on healthy food and drink before a race?

  8. just go out! run OUT, but don't buy a running machine and run inside, that's for fat people who don't want to leave their living room to run.... its good to have fresh air anyway, and it will get you prepared for running out on the day.

    good luck!

  9. eat good carbs.
