Question:

Training for Baseball?

Next spring, I plan on trying out for my high school baseball team. The only experience I've had is with Little League in elementary school. What do I need to do to train for tryouts? I'm 15 years old, weigh about 165, am about 5'10'', and am kinda out of shape. Also do you have any tips/advice for me?

  1. Personally I recommend plyometrics and a very specific dumbbell workout program to my clients who are at your stage in life, and other body exercises that bring good overall fitness. This will workout your entire body while making you more explosive in the process which is what you need to be a successful ballplayer. You will hit the ball with greater velocity and be quicker to the ball in the field.

I have created a website service that is adding information daily about baseball and techniques and best practices. I suggest you take a look at it and feel free to email me with any questions at theprospect09@gmail.com. This is a professional service that I provide for the public so that we can educate kids just like you who are trying to pursure their dreams. Good luck and hope to hear from you.

  2. sit ups push ups crunches lifting weights etc

  3. I don't know what position you will be playing but I assume either 1st, 3rd, or outfield b/c of your height. if you plan on playing the infield work on your foot work and your hands. this you can do by yourself. find a wall and just throw it, as the ball returns as a grounder, step, and move your feet and move your hands (quick hands impresses the coach). this is the most important aspect of infield. As for outfield you best bet is long tossing or try to find someone to hit fly balls to you.

For hitting use a tee and hit against a chain link fence focus on having a level swing not power.  if you have the will power run a little and during tryout NEVER give up and hustle. You have a good size body and coaches like that and don't get intimidated by others. Highshcool ball is a blast enjoy it because its going to be a fast four year trust me we won states twice and it was fun!

  4. This is the answere i gave ti someone else with same deal

This first part  regards to strength and conditioning stuff

First , lower body is more important, you get all your power from your legs, more importantly your hips.LOWER: If you want to get real serious, do squats, dead lift, and power cleans. Make sure you get a trainer or a class and learn great technique and have proper spotting. The dead-lifts and squats will develop strong hams, gluts, and quads which give you power in your swing and throw, especially if you pitch, they will add speed to your fast-ball and make you a faster runner. The power cleans will develop explosiveness in the hips which is the most important thing in sports, whether it tackling, wrestling, swinging a baseball bat, or throwing the bat. There are also less serious things you could do along with that or alone. Lunges are great (with a bar and weight on shoulders or holding dumbbells), Jerk press or military press, calve raises(weighted), running, GHD, Snatch. UPPER BODY: Bench(do towel, flat, and incline), biceps curls, triceps, delt exercises, wrist rolls for forearms, lat pull down. I would us the machines to fitness hit all upper body muscles. FYI: either google or ask a trainer to show/tell you what some of these excerzies are.

THen obviously throw a lot to build up arm strength, especially long toss, get to a cage, you could get a few lessons to refine your swing cause it sounds like u haven't been playing. Also, you should run, especially sprints ranging from 40-200 yards. Sprints are better because they don't allow your body to reenergize, forcing it to burn fat and get in shape, even if your not fat.

Advice: The biggest thing is WHEN you mess up, which you will, dont get pissed pick ur self up and show good attitude. Look eger to get better and fix ur mistakes. Coaches all have been in ur shoes when they were younger, and they know ur nervous when you let that ground ball go right through your legs, or what ever. Next, look coachable. Do what the coaches say, and exaggerate it. EX: If you catch and they tell you to scream "CUT 3, CUT 3" yell as loud as you can. Let them know and see that they told you what you did wrong and you fixed it. They know if they can coach you, and they see your talent, but your just not showing it, eventually they can fix ur problem and make you better

  5. First and foremost: Always stretch and warm up your arm before playing (or practicing).

Second, building leg strength is important no matter what position you are trying out for.  It will aid in endurance, hitting, throwing, and running.

  6. Im the same way but im 14 and 6'3 but im trying out for my team and im already training for it , to get urself in shape start running. I wouldnt recommend a treadmill outside is better and can be more challangeing in some cases. Also start lifting weights to build your arms and do leg press'. Do situps and crunches to build ur abs. Start air punching with 5-10 lb weights in ur hands to make them quicker and itll help u swing the bat faster. Take a tennis ball and throw it at all a wall pretty hard rapid fire and try catching it without dropping it itll help with ur hand eyed cordnation. also if u cn go to a batting cage 2-3 times a week just so ur swing will be nice and fresh when tryouts come around. If ur a pitcher work on ur arm with weights but dont stretch it out to much it could make it worse. Just pracitce playing catch and maybe buy one of those nets that bounces the ball back to u. go to some pitching camps and work on ur form. about a month before tryouts do some live pitching with ur friends just to get used to the feeling.

  7. work on catching or first base cause thats where there gonna wanna play you if your out of shape.mostly.unless u can pitch.do ur best and hustle at the try outs and be on time
