Training for a Duathlon?

I have ran cross country and track. I am currently training for my first Duathlon. Any tips?

  1. Get that VO2 max up.  Train long but easy, and do speed work once a week.  After a while try a brick(i.e. bike then run...) to practice the transition.  HAVE FUN!

Done one of these before and the biking was in the mountains which was torture.  As a runner, my main advice I can give b/c I didn't do a lot of training on the bike,  is to simulate the race.  I ran then biked, but never ran again..........that second run is very difficult if you've never done this before.  The muscles ya use during biking make it feel as if you've never run before when doing your second run it took me .5 Mi. to get my legs feeling somewhat normal.    Good Luck
