So cross country starts on monday and I was wondering if running 30 minutes in the morning before school would help in addition to practice after school. I have been running all summer so im sure i have a decent base.

  1. That is fine but you may want to begin to build up slowly.

Also work on your sprints up hill for at least ten minutes a day, trust me, it realy helps build your stamina

  2. An additional 30 minutes a day may help you a bit, but overall is unnecessary.  It might help your endurance a little, but it would also cut into your sleep, which alone keeps it from being totally worth it.  Also, this means your legs get less rest, which, especially after workout days, is particularly important.

If you want to do this, do it once every week or two.  You may want to do it on a workout day.

    Hope it helps!

  3. If you are looking to improve your mile time, train by running shorter distances to build your speed. Like if you normally run 1600m try running 800m 2-4 times a week. Just eat healthy and don't eat 2 hours before you run, it will cause a sidestich. Before school would be good, but you might get tired later in the day, and you don't want your grades to drop. I would reccomend running before dinner time.

  4. It depends on how you feel before your after-school practice. If you feel fresh and have fully recovered from your morning run, then it should be fine to continue morning runs. If you still feel exhaustion from the run, then I would cut it out. One thing you should definitely do is consult your coach. Coaches will have specific training plans for certain runners and he/she may not want you to add a morning run to your daily regimen.
