Question:

Training my Chinchilla?

My chinchilla and I have been getting used to each other for the past several months, he went through a bout of depression and has finally broken out of it, but it occurred to me tonight when I was going to work that I've been pampering him. I'd like to train him to do some chores, and earn his keep. He's not a very good guard, but he is loud and his eyes glow sometimes so he might be able to scare away an intruder, but I want him to do something more tangible. He likes to play with things, so I was thinking about getting him a miniature broom and dust pan. Do you think that would work? Is there any literature on training chinchillas to do house work? I looked but couldn't find any, and I think it would be really good to help him develop some character. Thank you.

  1. I think I'd just slip some fishnets stocking on him, stick a big, purple orchid behind his ear and let him choose a corner.

But, hey, that's just me, yanno?

  2. haha r u serious? it wouldn't even be able to hold a broom. just play with it and take care of it, don't make it work!

  3. Chinchillas are jumpers and can easily jump up to 5'. Perhaps you would do well to start with a duster, a ceiling fan and your chinchilla. Whether or not he would enjoy it I cannot say, but you almost certainly would.

  4. You would do better to teach him to dance,  he would only eat the bristles off the broom.
