  1. Go easy if you are new to running.

You need to have proper rest in between training to allow your body to recover.

You also need the correct equipment - try getting trainers fitted by a good shop. Run 4 it, for example, observe you on a treadmill before fitting trainers to you.

Keep your distances short and build up slowly.

    Have fun...

  2. Don't train to fast, or to much, to soon, is the best way to prevent a lot of injuries. To start off running, I wouln't go for more than 15 minutes at an easy pace for the first few days (or about a week) than up it by 5 minutes. so that will be about 1 1/2- 2  miles to start off with. Try starting off on a more soft surace as well and work your way onto pavement a little bit at a time.

For now though since you are hurt try getting to a pool and aqua jogging. It is a little hard to get used to but once you get used to aqua jogging it is a great way to cross train and it will give your shins a chance to heal. Good luck

  3. you are probably referring to shin splints

do sets of toe raises several times throughout the day

continue running to improve form so you don't get shin splints.

or run on grass to soften the impact to reduce chance of injury

  4. Lots of useful information out there.
