  1. The cheaper way to travel in Europe is by bus.

For train travel, you can use this site:

    http://www.bahn.de/p/view/international/...

You can use it to find travel times, but it did not give the price of the travel in the timetable part as the part outside Germany is to big an influence, but there are more parts to the site, also selling international tickets in the German part. For some services you need to log in.

The site for bus/coach travel in Europe is:

    http://www.eurolines.com/index.php?id=11...

it has a connection Berlin Minsk, (it did send me to a German site, if also in English, and the name for Belarus is Weisrusland, it came up in German.)

    Price indication:

single journey about 70 Euro, returns 90 to 125 Euro.

I read in the Travel Europe section on this site that there are more companies for bus travel in Europe, likely even cheaper, but I do not have links for those. If you know more about how you want to travel, that is the best section for you to ask for more info, either general Europe, Germany of other destinations.

An other site for travel in Europe, much info but arranged differently:

    http://www.seat61.com/

I looked at the London to Minsk section (it being the easiest) and found there is a Minsk to Cologne overnight sleeper train.

This site should be able to help you get more info.

Good luck, I hope you will be able to visit your friend soon.

(PS, do not forget to arrange your visa before spending anything on travel.)

While I typed this, the other answers were posted, good info those.

  2. Further to the answer above, if you look into www.lufthansa.com you will also find flights to Minsk.

  3. Of course, you can change trains enough times to travel between any two cities. There are no direct trains between Paris and Minsk, but every day except Saturdays between now and 16th October you can catch train ICE9557 at 1709 from Paris Est station which arrives at Mannheim in Germany at 2016. An hour later, at 2116, you can board the Basel (Switzerland) to Moscow train, D50353, which reaches Minsk at 2336 the next day. Reservation is compulsory on both trains. Don't forget you will need to get a visa in order to be allowed into Belarus.
