OK, now I got the backspin postition but I am not over my left side(I'm a clockwise skater). Does anyone have tips on getting over my left side. Would a harness help? I might do it on Wednesday?

  1. Do a lot of Waltz Jump - Back Scratch Spin, and also lots of Waltz Jump - Loop Combos. That will really really help. Also try to work off-ice jumps. A harness will really help because it gives you more security on the air. Your problem might be because you are kind of scared when jumping. Hope you will get it soon...

  2. if you can't get you weight over your landing leg that means that you stretching your leg too far away from your body on the take off. Keep it very close to you body as you going into the jump - also make sure the right leg goes through and not round then try to feel your back spin position. Push you hips forward on the take off into the jump (that might help as well)

If you can already do that and you falling with your feet underneath your body then you almost there. Be patient and practice the jump everyday. Even when it feels it is not working and you not getting anywhere you are still making improvements and you will land the jump one day...

  3. When you pull in, try holding your arms more over your left side.  Also work on doing a lot of waltz jumps and waltz jump back scratch spins.  Make sure you feet are crossed in the air too.

  4. I have been working on my axel for EVER.  Luckily, it's finally improving due to this one simple tip: A correction on a waltz jump.  If you are just doing waltz jumps that's your first mistake.  My coach tells me unless you feel your weight shifting from one leg to another in a waltz jump you'll never get an axel.  Really focus on your waltz jump when you do it.  Try to feel that change of weight.  Concentrate on it.

I hate the harness, it's HORRIBLE for your mind.  It adds such a sense of security that once you're not attached to that horrible device you will feel like you won't be able to do anything.  But it helps.  First what you should do is do GIANT waltz jumps on the harness.  Focus even more on when you feel your weight shift from one to the other foot.  Then when you feel like you're ready, pull in as tight as you can when you think you'll hit that sweet spot in the air.  You'll have a good axel in NO time.

Also, my coach says that it's all about the knee that starts the jump.  Because you are clockwise, think about this: When you kick through with your left foot, as soon as you're up in the air, straighten it out right underneath your body.  Your right foot will cross as soon as you feel your left foot right underneath your body.  My coach says it's all in the twist and the straightening of the jumping leg.  Kick back your left foot behind you and when you're taking off, just like I said, straighten it out, and that will make your hips twist and then you'll hopefully get your axel.

I know it's a lot to think about, and really I can't think and skate at the same time.  It's hard to focus on all of this, but each day set a small goal.  Don't aim too high too fast.  You'll get it when it comes to you.
