Tranmission fluid question?

Is it better to just add more? or drain out the old before u add new? And does transmission fluid get used up? Because it seems like my car was low when i checked the other day and there arnt any leaks

You should change the transmission fluid and filter every 30,000 miles.And no,transmissions do not "use"fluid like an engine will "use"oil.And oil doesn't evaporate!!!!,,,,If your tranny was low then it must have a leak somewhere.But if between fluid and filter changes you find the fluid level to be low just add some,being careful NOT to overfill it.Happy motoring.


  2. if your low, just add some, but don,t overfill it or you can blow a seal.oil can evaporate some over a period of time, that,s why it is important to check on it from time to time.

  3. i assume your talking about an automatic tran, its of to ad a little when u need it but a little is a pint or less if you are adding mor than that you have a leak to be concernd about. i believe in changing trany fluid and filter atleast every third or fouth engine oil change. tranny fluid has to indure extreem heat. to many of us dont think about the trany untill it failes. and a fluid change is cheaper than a trany
