Tranny modulator or needs spark plugs and wires?

i have a 97 trans am that feels like it's trying to shif on slight inclines. jerks with cruise control on but goes away as soon as i step on gas. car starts fine and idles fine. engine light begins flashing on slight hills. code comes up as emission control assembly. help

best place to start is a complete tune-up.this includes plugs possibly wires and distributor cap.dont forget to change the fuel filter which should be done ona yearly basis anyway.after that have the codes cleared and drive it.if the check engine light comes back on or it doesnt run properly recheck the codes.i really doubt its the modulator.my experience has been it doesnt shift at all when they go bad.
