Schalke’s new signing has hailed manager Huub Stevens ahead of the pre-season and is confident of making his mark for Die Knappen.

Barnetta admitted that he has settled down quickly at his new club as his new teammates have been very supportive. He stressed that Stevens wants his players to give their all during training and has great expectations from his
team however, he also has some light moments on the pitch to make sure the players stay motivated.
“I already know the lads from playing against them so it was really easy for me. I got a great reception. Huub Stevens is a coach who demands a lot but he’s also willing to have a laugh at times. If you have fun on the pitch, that
doesn’t mean you’re not doing the drills properly. You can laugh and work well and hard at the same time,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, the Swiss international played down claims that some supporters have not taken his move from Bayer Leverkusen well. He admitted that there has been great support from the Die Knappen fans and is delighted with
the response from the fans.
“Of course, it’s great to get support like that and be able to excite all the people who got behind me at training. That’s part of what makes Schalke so special,” he concluded.
