Transact set to shine at Newcastle- Handicap Chase Preview
Among the 9 runners, who are going to compete for the ace title of Guinness St Patrick’s Handicap Chase at Newcastle racecourse on Saturday night, March 17, Transact seems to be in the most favourable position to finish first.
The Martin Todhunter-trained veteran gelding is expected to unleash plenty of firepower and dominate his rivals convincingly in the mega marathon which will commence at 3:05 (GMT).
For £2,599 of prize money, Transact will run against Gavroche Gaugain, Pamak D ‘Airy, A Patchy Dancer, Le Reveur, Red Kingdom, Prince Tam, Little Bob and Ice Image over the 2m110y track.
Having struggled for at least three years, Transact finally managed to gain immense momentum miraculously towards the end of the last year.
After winning Brick Services Novices’ Handicap Chase at Newcastle on December 17, 2011, the seven-year-old maverick horse elegantly won La Taxis Handicap Chase at the same venue on February 1, 2012.
These two epic victories at Newcastle track has made him well familiar with the condition of the ground where he is again going to show his guts today.
Overall, the J. D. Racing-owned gelding owns three wins to his name out of total 20 races he has run in so far.
At the moment, Transact is awash with zeal and spirit which will lend a great hand to him when he runs after a few hours. He is likely to capitalise on his newly-gained momentum and clinch the title of this Chase as well.
However, some of his competitors like Ice Image and Gavroche Gaugain can give him fairly tough time during the race.
Ice Image has been performing nicely since the dawn of the calendar year. After getting fifth spot in a race on February 28, the George Charlton-trained bay gelding finished as runner-up in his last outing on March 13.
On the other hand, Gavroche Gaugain gained a lot of confidence by winning Smithy The John Smith’s Racehorse Handicap Chase at Sedgefield on November 8, 2011. Prior to this, the trainee of Ferdy Murphy had delivered some decent performances during the year
2011.
With both these horses being in good form at the moment, success is going to be a hard nut to crack for Transact, but the brilliant gelding will surely be able to pass through all the challenges high-headedly. Good luck to him.
