Transantlantic Flights shopping...?

Hi,

I'm looking to book flights to Canada from London for this October. Of course prices have shot up significantly since I booked last year, but I'm wondering if am I best leaving it for now and seeing if I can get a better deal nearer the time?

Last year I booked 6 weeks before departure and got a good price with Air Canada, in your experience will this happen this year?

The airlines are also doing sales for this summer at the mo, towards the end of summer will they be doing sales on Autumn (october) flights?
