Transfer News: Guardiola and Mourinho racing to sign Rooney while Ancelloti acts sensibly
Amidst reports that Wayne Rooney, English footballs boy wonder is destined for a move away from Old Trafford, many names have been thrown into the mire as far as his potential suitors are concerned. Anyone who manages to sign Rooney
will secure themselves a signature of a top quality striker and an inspirational footballer but to do so they will have to dish out a massive amount of money and perhaps even break the world record transfer fee currently held by Real Madrid as they paid an
80 million pound fee for Cristiano Ronaldo back in the summer of 2009.
Real Madrid and Barcelona are two clubs that have apparently entered the race to sign the English national team forward after their respective managers came out in the media revealing their admiration for the young centre forward.
Admittedly the past six or so months have been the worse of Rooney’s career thus far. He has yet to score from open play for Manchester United in the 2010-2011 season and the striker has scored only a single goal in club football since his ankle injury way
back in March of 2010.
Mourinho was the first one to make his feelings regarding the whole transfer scenario public as the Real Madrid manager said that, everyone will be interested in signing the English forward. Jose Mourinho will be looking to play
a clever game as far as this transfer saga is concerned. He is already touted by many as the heir apparent to Ferguson’s throne at Old Trafford but his current project is already going from strength to strength at Real Madrid. Mourinho added to his comments
by stating that he has immense respect for Sir Alex Ferguson and for Wayne Rooney as well.
The Portuguese manager was not shy of stating his admiration for the English striker but he was also quite careful is managing his words as he stating again and again that the young centre forward will be staying at Old Trafford
no matter what. Mourinho went onto reiterate that he believes that Sir Alex Ferguson will convince Rooney to stay at the Theatre of dreams. Mourinho spoke at length about Rooney and Manchester United after his post match interview with the media following
Real Madrid’s two nil win over A.C Milan in a group stage match of the UEFA Champions League.
Alternatively, Pep Guardiola, Barcelona’s coach has also come to the forefront as the Rooney saga has taken yet another swing. Guardiola, who used to play for Barcelona way back in the 1990s and early 2000s, told the press that
he also admires Wayne Rooney.
Such comments in light of the present situation regarding Rooney’s future at Manchester United, signal some sort of intent by the Catalan manager. Barcelona have been previously linked to Wayne Rooney as in the summer, their own
starlet Lionel Messi voiced his wish to play alongside the striker sometime in the future. The Argentinean forward went as far as saying that he will personally talk to the Barcelona club president to convince him to sign Wayne. But that was in the summer
of 2010, Rooney has been out of form ever since he suffered an ankle injury in March of 2010.
Conversely, Chelsea’s manager Carlo Ancelloti has been quite mum over the matter. When he was asked about his club’s stance on the Wayne Rooney crisis situation at Manchester United, the ex-A.C Milan manager elaborated by saying
that he is not in a position to comment on the matter. Carlo went onto add that the media should ask Roman Abramovich if they needed to inquire about Chelsea’s potential transfer targets and the funds that will be available to secure them in the near future.
Rooney himself released a statement on 21st of October, 2010 saying that he is ready to part ways with his current employers because the club lacks ambition and is not ready to invest in world class players such as himself.
The whole scenario is set to take a new turn today as Sir Alex Ferguson is going to release a statement on 21st of October, 2010 regarding the whole Rooney transfer saga.
