Transfer Rumors: July 1, 2010, Hodgson almost there, City to keep spending
Hodgson is going to be given fifteen million pounds after he is appointed as Liverpool’s new manager, to help strengthen the squad. The sixty two year old is still due to be officially unveiled at Anfield. But reports state that a compensation deal has been agreed with Fulham. He is most probably going to be given a two year work contract, with no option of an escape clause, incase England come calling for him to manage the national team. Since he is apparently being touted as the only possible successor, to Capello’s, failure of a throne.
Manchester City have successfully completed the twenty five million pound signing of Valencia and Spain winger, David Silva. But this doesn't seem to have affected their designated transfer funds at all. Jermoe Boateng’s eleven million pound signing to the Eastland’s will be made official by the end of the week. With Yaya Toure, not being left, too far behind.
City are not going to be stopping their however, they are keen on increasing their initially rejected bid of twenty million pounds for James Milner, who is currently playing at Aston Villa. They are also not giving up hope on signing Edzin Dzeko, from Wolfsberg. The current asking price for the player by the club is fifty million pounds. Not surprisingly they are also looking into David Luiz, the Benfica midfielder. They may actually finally give up on their chase for Maicon considering Inter Milan have strongly stated that they are not willing to sell him to any club for any price.
Barcelona are most likely going to launch a bid for Javier Mascherano, in order to replace the Eastland bound Yaya Toure. In response to this, Liverpool are going to launch a shocking bid for former Arsenal player, Gilberto Silva. But the signing of Mascherano might dent Barcelona’s chances of signing Fabregas, considering the asking price for the Argentine is twenty five million pounds.
Arsenal have targeted a new centre back in the shape of, Mertesacker. Arsenal are currently eyeing a ten million pound move for the German centre back. This will be a very crucial signing if it happens to go through since Arsenal are currently facing a shortage of defensive players. The six foot five defender was part of the German team that swept aside England and is now set to play Argentina in the quarter finals.
The other potential Arsenal target, is Everton player Phil Jagielka. David Moyes who is currently in charge at Goodison park has urged the Everton board to not let the defender go, since he plays a very important and vital role in the team. This urge by the Everton boss to keep his center back at the club may just pave way to Wenger swooping in for Mertesacker.
Liverpool are set to lose out on the signing of Standard Liege striker Milan Jovanovic. Rafa Benitez is trying to urge Jovanovic to opt for a move to the San Siro instead. Jovanovic agreed to move to Anfield but is now all set to pull out of it and follow Benitez to Inter Milan instead.
