Transfer Rumors: July 17, 2010, City sign left back, Cole almost at Madrid
Manchester City have had a seventeen million pound bid for Lazio side back, Aleksander Kolarov accepted. The only thing left to do now is for the player to accept personal terms and pass a medical at the club.
However city don’t plan on stopping there, The Guardian is quoted to have said, 'James Milner remains a target and City are hoping to reach a compromise with Aston Villa over a fee. An opening offer of £20m was turned down in May and Villa have said they want £30m, but it helps City that Milner is known to want the transfer to go ahead.
Similarly there will be new attempts to resurrect a deal for Wolfsburg's prolific striker Edin Dzeko, despite the huge disparity in the valuation of the player. Wolfsburg are asking for a fee of around £45m whereas City are adamant they will not pay significantly above £30m.'
Real Madrid are planning on filling the vacancy in their left back spot as well. The only person according to new manager, Jose Mourinho who is capable of doing so is Chelsea’s left back, Ashley Cole. However there is good news for Liverpool fans, as stated in The Independent, 'Out with the old, in with the new.
The incoming gaffer [Jose Mourinho] oversaw the returning players' pre-season medical checks, but he also met with Sami Khedira who was in Madrid yesterday ahead of a €10m (£8.5m) move from Stuttgart. The 23-year-old German World Cup star looks like becoming the "English-style box-to-box midfielder" that Mourinho had admitted he wanted for Real, so closing the door on the older and more expensive Steven Gerrard.'
Manchester United don’t feel like taking any risks with their prized asset, Wayne Rooney and are willing to offer him a deal estimated to worth around thirty five million pounds. The deal would see Rooney earn around a hundred and thirty thousand pounds a week and would see him commit his future to the club.
Arsenal have joined Tottenham in the race to sign, Connor Wickham. It is not yet clear whether or not Arsenal have made a formal bid for the player however. The Daily Mail is quoted to have said, 'Arsenal are ready to take on bitter rivals Tottenham in a bidding war for rising Ipswich star Connor Wickham.
Spurs, who have already had a £5million offer rejected, have upped their bid to £8m and are willing to loan the prodigious 17-year-old back to the Tractor Boys next season.'
On the other hand The Daily Mirror claims, 'Arsene Wenger has sparked a sensational bidding war with Spurs for Ipswich sensation Connor Wickham. The Arsenal boss has matched Harry Redknapp's bid of £7million for the 17-year-old striker - and Wenger is determined to land him.'
But what is certain is the fact that Arsenal and Tottenham are hot in pursuit of the player and, Ipswich could be on the way to losing one of their future prospects to these much bigger clubs.
