Transfer Rumors: July 20th 2010 - Cole at Anfield, City yes and no on Drogba
Joe Cole has officially signed for Liverpool, in a move that has shocked most of the footballing world. Liverpool hope that this signing will urge their star players to stay at the club. The Guardian in response to Joe’s signing has said, 'Club officials are increasingly hopeful, however, that a transfer that has been well-received by senior players will serve as a statement of intent to Gerrard and Torres should they become the subject of bids from Real Madrid and Chelsea respectively. No offers have been received for Gerrard or Torres, despite long-standing interest in the pair’
The Independent on the other hand has published a far more contradictory statement which states, 'It is understood that the question of whether Gerrard and Torres would still be at the club next season was raised during negotiations and the club were unable to give guarantees. Real Madrid were interested in Gerrard, although that has cooled, while Chelsea remain keen to sign Torres. It also went on to mention the fact that,'Liverpool were the only club to meet Cole's wage demands'
In response to wondering whether or not Torres and Gerrard will stay at the club,, The Times has said, 'There are, however, no assurances that either Gerrard or Torres will be at Anfield next season. Hodgson is desperate for both to stay, but Chelsea still have a bid in the region of £30 million on the table for the Spanish forward and are believed to be willing to increase their offer.'
Eduardo seems to be on his way out of Arsenal as we speak, apparently the Arsenal striker underwent a medical exam at Emirates recently which was closely monitored by the Shakhtar medical staff. The transfer of the player from Arsenal to Shakhtar is expected to take place in the coming few days and is expected to be around the region of six million pounds.
Didier Drogba’s agent released a controversial statement which said, “Today he’s at Chelsea. Maybe there will be surprises before August 31th. I haven’t spoken to just anybody. The only contact I’ve had directly was with City.”
City were infuriated by these remarks and went on to respond to these claims by saying, "We can categorically state we have no interest in signing Didier Drogba and any suggestion of an approach is entirely without foundation."
It is still unclear as to what Drogba’s future is going to be, but if City have anything to do with it then he definitely won’t be at the Eastlands. However chances are he might just end up wearing a lighter shade of blue once the season starts.
