Transfer Rumours: Cesc Fabregas going to FC Barcelona from Arsenal?
When the Spanish heroes returned to their country, they were welcomed by thousands of fans rushing to the streets of Madrid. The parade went on in front of around 200,000 fans as part of the victory celebrations for the first ever World Cup win for Spain. At that particular moment, Carlos Puyol and Gerard Pique stormed Cesc Fabregas, the Arsenal captain and put a Barcelona shirt over him. This was an unwelcomed sign for the supporters of Arsenal, as the midfielder is still committed to the club.
This problem is being going on for a very long time, and right now Cesc Fabregas’ transfer is the most talked about topic in the circles of Spanish football. Puyol and Pique, both play for the Catalunya side, and have been very vocal about this particular transfer. Even during the World Cup, they have been saying a lot about Fabregas being a real player for Barcelona, and that the transfer would be inevitable. Now, such a move would prove to be devastating to the midfielder’s relationship with the Arsenal’s fans, as this would be taken negatively in London.
In order to dissolve the issue, the midfielder and his father, Francesc Fabregas, both reiterated the fact that the gesture meant nothing, and that it was done as a sign of pleasure after lifting the trophy. Also, Fabregas chose to remain silent on the transfer issue, as both the clubs are still in disagreement over the price of the midfielder.
This whole episode was inevitable, especially after the World Cup. Cesc Fabregas is actually a true Catalunyan youngster, who rose through the ranks to become a widely recognized player. Barcelona is his hometown club and he has all his support and energies focused for Barcelona. During the World Cup Fabregas had a taste of playing alongside his possible teammates of the future, as the Spanish side was full of superstars from Barcelona. He had a taste of playing under Puyol, Pique, Xavi, Iniesta, Pedro, Busquets and a recent addition, David Villa. The success at the World Cup would definitely trigger the emotions of the midfielder, who would now want the Barcelona’s shirt more than ever. Even the winning goal at the final in South Africa, involved Fabregas and Iniesta, who is also a world class midfielder who plays for Barcelona.
There is also a lot of hype about Fabregas in Barcelona’s circles. The current Barcelona team has been very successful in the recent past, and the success has been linked with the players who actually rose through the youth system of their own club. Hence, Barcelona fans consider him to be one of their own, and they want him back to the club. This is the first time in the history that Barcelona seems to be in a position to really set their mark in club football, while overpowering the superiority of their archrivals, Real Madrid.
On the other hand, the Arsenal fans would be worried because Fabregas has shown his intent to leave the club on more than one occasion. So, if the transfer saga fails largely due to Barcelona's inability to meet Arsenal’s demand of 35 million pounds, the fans would never trust the midfielder ever again. This would create some extra problems for Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger. There is a likelihood that Fabregas would not be focused for the next season, and he might be stripped off his captaincy. The biggest damage would be that the lack of concentration from the midfielder would really put Arsenal’s hopes of titles in a ditch.
One thing is absolutely clear from this whole episode. Cesc Fabregas does not want to stay at Arsenal, as he wants to go back to his home club and become a part of a historic Barcelona’s team. However, Arsene Wenger has been building his team around the midfielder for four years now, and if he leaves then Arsenal would be back into troubles. So, there is a great chance that Wenger would do everything in his power to stop Fabregas, while Fabregas would have to regain the trust of his manager along with Arsenal fans as well.
