Transfer Rumours: Manchester United still uncertain on Mesut Ozil signing; Shay Given for Arsenal?
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has given little-to-nothing away about whether or not they are going to be signing Mesut Ozil in the near future. Ferguson has been a long-time admirer of the midfielder and has recently been hot in pursuit of the player and in constant talks with his current club, Werder Bremen.
Ferguson was recently spotted at Craven Cottage watching a pre-season friendly between Werder Bremen and Fulham. It is very rare for Ferguson to attend any matches other than those of United, unless he is looking to see a player perform up close and personal. According to The Guardian, 'Ferguson is more concerned about Chelsea, with their superior finances, hijacking the deal, which might explain his reluctance to be drawn further on the issue,' and adds that 'The picture is complicated because the Germans were also handed a difficult Champions League qualifying round draw on Friday, which sees them play Sampdoria later this month. If they leave Ozil out and preserve his value, they risk a failure to qualify which would wipe out any income from selling him.'
Tottenham Hotspur seem to finally be making some progress in the transfer market. It appears as though their seven and a half million pound bid for Loic Remy might just go through. Remy has desperately been looking to move to the Premier League to showcase his talents on a larger scale. He might be able to do just that if the deal with Tottenham goes through. According to The Daily Mirror, 'Remy visited Stoke last week but they could not agree a fee, while West Ham and Liverpool have also failed to meet Nice's £14.3m valuation.
'Now Tottenham, who sent coach Joe Jordan to watch him on Saturday night, are also willing to move for him if the price drops to around £10m.'
Remy himself was reported to have said that a move to Tottenham would be interesting. He went on to mention how Tottenham just broke into the top four of the Premier League and would be looking to build on that success. He also said that he would like to be a part of Tottenham since the possibilities would be endless.
Arsene Wenger might have finally realised that even though having young players in the squad is a good thing, having experienced players is even better. Wenger has apparently launched a bid for Manchester City’s number one goalkeeper Shay Given. This was directly after he was told to lay off their second choice keeper, Joe Hart. No one is quite sure as to how much Wenger is going to or has bid on the player but most experts believe the figure to be around twenty million pounds.
This is the second keeper that Arsenal and Wenger have been linked to in the span of two days. Only a day ago, reports went around claiming that Wenger had made an audacious twenty three million pound bid for Liverpool’s goalkeeper, Pepe Reina. Reina was the Golden Glove winner last season and is currently highly unlikely to be leaving Liverpool to join Arsenal.
Tottenham’s Peter Crouch has been linked to a move back to Anfield. According to Roy Hodgson, Crouch is the ideal player to beef up the Liverpool offense line and will stop at nothing to get his man. Everton are also rumoured to be interested in the player, who has had a couple of disappointing seasons with Tottenham. It is now up to Crouch to decide whether or not he wants to leave a team that qualified for the Champions League to play elsewhere.
